Thankfulness

                      Thankfulness

Most of us have grown up celebrating Thanksgiving, but I know for me the true meaning of Thankfulness, the core of what Thanksgiving is all about really escaped me until recently.  Thankfulness is not just about being thankful in the easy times, but its about being thankful even when life seems to throw you a few curve balls. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NLT) says “Always be joyful.  Never stop praying.  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus”.  If we really think about that verse and apply it to our lives it means we are to be thankful even when the world is trying to bring us down.  But our call as Christians, as followers of Christ is to remember to give thanks even in the most difficult circumstances.
This idea of thankfulness can so easily transpose itself into our worship lifestyle as well.  Just consider the Psalmists and how must praise & worship was given to God even in the midst of trials.  Psalm 117 reminds us why we should praise God when it says “Praise the LORD, all you nations.  Praise him, all you people of the earth.  For he loves us with unfailing love; the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever.  Praise the LORD!” While we see in Psalm 62 that David is experiencing a trial against many enemies and yet he still chooses to remember and share with us that “He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.  My victory and honor come from God alone.  He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me” (v. 5-7).
So as we move into this season of thankfulness and thanksgiving, lets remember that even in the midst of the trials we encounter every day, GIVE HIM PRAISE!  When life is so difficult you are unsure of what will happen next, GIVE HIM PRAISE!  And also in the midst of the joys of the holiday season, GIVE HIM PRAISE! For as we GIVE HIM PRAISE and worship our lord and creator we are establishing within ourselves something that will overflow with joy in our lives, and those trials we encounter will seem but specs of dust in comparison to the great glory and power of God in our lives.  Therefore we will find we are Thankful even when the world says we should not be.
